Knit Kits Materials: You will need approximately 30 yds. of fingering weight yarn, needles size US #1, 0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0, 5 doll buttons and 3 stitch holders (safety pins).

Begin by cutting three, two yard lengths from your ball of yarn and setting them aside. You will attach them later when you separate the armhole sections and shoulders

To make the jewel neck, follow the blue instructions. For the turtle neck, follow the instructions in red.

With size 2-0 needles, cast on 45 sts. K 1 row. P 1 row. K 3 rows. P 1 row. Continue the rest of the piece in stockinette stitch (K 1 row, P 1 row). Work 2 more rows, then switch to size 3-0 needles. Work 2 more rows, then switch to size 4-0 needles. Work 2 more rows, then switch to size 5-0 needles. Work 4 rows, then switch back to size 4-0 needles. Work 2 rows, then switch to size 3-0 needles. Work 2 rows, then switch to size 2-0 needles. Work 4 rows, then switch to size 0 needles. Work 4 rows, then switch to size 1 needles. Use size 1 needles for the rest of the piece. Work 4 rows, then divide for the armholes as follows: K 10, bind off 1, K 23, bind off 1, attach one of the 2 yard lengths of yarn and k 10 to the end. P 10, P 23, then attach another length of yarn and P 10 to the end. K 8, K2tog, then, on the second section, K2tog, K19, K2tog, and on the last section, K2tog, K8. P 1 row. Continue working the 3 sections (9sts, 21sts, 9sts) for 8 rows, then divide for the front neck shaping as follows: On the first section, K9. On the center section, K9, slip 3 sts onto a holder, attach another length of yarn, K9. On the last section, K9. P 1 row, maintaining 4 sections. On the next K row, K2tog on either side of the holder to shape the neck. P 1 row. Your 4 sections will now have 9, 8,8,9 sts respectively. Bind off for the shoulder and back neck shaping as follow: K2 and slip them onto a holder, K7, second section, bind off 3, K3, K2tog, third section, K2tog, K6, fourth section, bind off 3, K4, slip 2 onto a holder. Next row, P4, second section, bind off 3, P2 P2tog, third section, P2tog, P2, fourth section, bind off 3, P4. Next row, K2tog, K2, second section, bind off 3 and tie off, third section, K3, fourth section bind off 3, K2tog,bind off and tie off. Bind off and tie off the remaining 3 and 3 sts on the last 2 sections.

Block the piece and sew the shoulder seams. Block the seams.

To make the neck, with size 4-0 needles, start at left back edge, K 2 sts from holder, pick up and K 5 sts to the shoulder seam, pick up and K 8, K 3 sts from holder, pick up and K 8 to shoulder seam, pick up and K 5, K 2 sts from holder. To make jewel neck, work 33 sts in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 rows. Bind off in ribbing. To make turtle neck, K 1 row, P 1 row, K 1 row, P 2 rows, (K 1 row, P 1 row) 4 times. Work the next row in K1, P1 ribbing. Bind off in ribbing. Fold over so that the ribbing edge covers the neck pick up seam. Tack in place with needle and thread at the back edges.

To finish the back edges and make button loops, use a crochet hook size 0 or smaller. On right back edge, sc along the edge from top to bottom. On the left back edge, sc 2, (ch 3, sc 5) 4 times, end ch 3, sc 1. Adjust as you need to space the loops evenly . On the turtle neck, crochet through both layers of the folded over neck that you tacked into place and create the top loop at the turtle neck edge so that it will fit snug to the doll's neck when buttoned.
